MINT ERROR or mechanical defect: Germany – GDR 5 stamps, 1972
Stefan Proynov: Expert mint error coins european
A very common German Democratic coin was sent to our laboratory for analysis.
Is this a die flawed coin or is it a mechanical injury/
Our analysis shows that this is a partial damage to the coin and not a MINT ERROR.
Usually, when there is a so-called biting, there is a tear of the coin, and here there is only destruction of the edge of the coin, which can also be caused by filing.
There are also a few burn lines on one side that shouldn’t be there and our opinion is that this is an injury to the coin and not a MINT ERROR.
